
A Hayesville man has been charged with aggravated assault after he got in a fight at a Towns County bar leaving another man seriously injured, according to a release from Towns County Sheriff Chris Clinton.
Sonny Freyre, Jr, 21, was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 30 and booked into the Towns County Detention Center on one count of aggravated battery in reference to a physical altercation, which was reported to have occurred at the Sand Bar in Hiawassee.
Towns County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Sand Bar on Highway 76 on Sunday, Aug. 20 during the early morning hours in reference to a physical altercation occurring there, Clinton said in the release. Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject, identified as Jeremy Austin Hall, severely injured lying on the ground being treated by Emergency Medical Services personnel. He was transported from the scene and admitted to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The incident was turned over to Towns County Sheriff’s investigators for further investigation. Sheriff’s investigators were assisted by an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Sheriff’s office investigators identified and interviewed 26 witnesses. Investigators also gathered other evidence as well.
As of Sept. 3, Hall remained hospitalized with serious injuries.
The case will be forwarded to the Towns County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution, Clinton said.
