
It’s not often that a love story spans 65 years, but this one does. From the day Russell Saltz and Martha “Scottie” Rogers met when she served him a little bit of extra cake until today, they have raised a family, taught thousands of students between the two of them and gone on to settle into retirement and life with grandchildren. Russell Saltz’s family has been in this area since his father, Plato Saltz and mother Willa Mae moved here from eastern Tennessee. They acquired the land Russell’s house sits on now, along with a large amount of acreage, with the intention of continuing his timber business.
