
Though we didn’t see the tens of thousands of people projected for the Aug. 21 eclipse, we still saw an increase in traffic and local campsites were relatively full.
Some came from as far north as Connecticut, some came from farther in the interior of North Carolina, like from Charlotte, some only came the two hours it takes to get here from Atlanta and one came all the way from Germany. The consensus among most campers interviewed was that Hayesville was a draw because of the lake, among other offerings such as mountain biking and hiking trails.
