Blue Ridge EMC is working around the clock to restore electricity in Clay and surrounding counties

The calls started rolling in between 4-5 p.m. on Monday, Sept.11. Before it was over, more than 14,000 people would be impacted. The bulk of the calls came in between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. Tuesday. Power was out all over the area. The lights were out system-wide including Clay, Towns, Union and parts of Cherokee and Fannin counties.
Hurricane Irma did not score a direct hit to the area but the wind gusts, more than 50 miles an hour, toppled trees, and downed limbs and power lines.
