President Donald Trump’s proposed budget is a long way from clearing Congress. However, a quick look at its contents gives a revealing idea of the new administration’s priorities and why they are making some people around Clay County nervous and sending others contemplating changing jobs.
The proposed $1.15 trillion America First budget is on the Web at: www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget or can be seen simply by searching on Google for America First budget blueprint.
The full budget is not expected to be released until May and it must still face scrutiny and debate in the Republican-controlled Congress. However, its passage could have a major impact on assistance programs for lower- income people across western North Carolina.
