In a front page story titled “Local family suffers loss” that ran in the April 6 edition of the Progress two statements are incorrect. The statement that Womble “drove herself to the doctor” was incorrect. Womble’s doctor told the officer she assumed she was able to drive herself. In fact Womble had no license and was driven by a family member.
Additionally, the statement that said her daughter left to pick up “her” kids about 3 p.m. should have said pick up someone’s kids, but not Shanda Womble’s children. Final autopsy results are not in, according to Sheriff’s Detective Todd Wingate, but there is still no foul play suspected in the tragedy. Dessie Womble, 66, was found dead March 29 in a pond near her home. The Progress extends our condolences to Mrs. Womble’s family.
