
A local man is well on the mend this week after a typical jog around the Hayesville town square turned into a jaunt to the hospital where he received 14 stitches to his head and another four in his back.
Charles Edward Staton Sr., 75, had been to the Clay County Rec gym the morning of Jan. 19 when he decided to go for a jog around the square, as he often did. As Staton approached the post office he said he looked over and saw ladders and thought, “I’d better cut across the street,” and about that time something heavy struck him on top of his head.
