An investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of an 81-year-old Murphy man who faces charges of sexual assault involving a child. On Jan. 9 John Frederick Kaufman was arrested and remains in custoday at the Cherokee County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in District Court on Jan. 25. According to Sheriff Derrick Palmer, during the latter part of November a report was made that Kaufman was suspect in a child sexual assault.
An investigation was conducted which culminated in the January arrest of Kaufman.
