  • Comedy delight is on the way. Pictured around the table are Cindy Lathrop, Meredith Legg- Grady, Cameron LeJeune, Jon Jordan, Laurel Adams, Ryan Hunter, Karl Snow, Jessica Gentry, David Layfield and Kay Thomas. Standing to the right of the table is Donna Frazier, Diana Lappin, Kristin Hood and Kathy Wright.

Rehearsals have begun for this summer’s rollicking romp of a comedy at the Peacock in Hayesville.

We’ve got an extraordinary cast and a formidable array of crews to get Leading Ladies on its feet.

The cast ranges from actors who’ve been on the Peacock stage a lot, to some who haven’t been here in years and a new-to-the-Peacock actress, but not new to acting. In other words, a very experienced cast.

The story, in a nutshell, revolves around a duo of down-at-the-heels Shakespearean actors who are now touring the Moose Lodge circuit in Pennsylvania when they read about a dying elderly lady in the area who’s looking to leave her large estate to her long-lost relatives, Max and Steve.

Our duo are actors — what would be more natural than for them to impersonate two guys and collect the inheritance? — except on arrival in the town, they find out that Max and Steve are girls and the hi-jinks begin.

Cast members Karl Snow, Ryan Hunter, Cameron LeJeune, David Layfield, Jon Jordan, Jessica Gentry, Meredith Legg-Grady and Kay Thomas will do their best to keep you laughing.

Cindy Lathrop, stage manager, will do her best to keep them in line.

Kristin Hood will do her best to light their shenanigans and our costume team — Diana Lappin, Donna Frazier and Kathy Wright — will do their best to make sure they’re in the right costume for whomever they’re playing.

“Leading Ladies” runs August 9–11; 16–18 at the Peacock, 301 Church Street, Hayesville.

Friday and Saturday performances are 7:30 p.m., Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. Seating is reserved and tickets are on sale now: $20 for adults, $9 for students, with group discounts available.

To purchase tickets, call or visit the office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, call 389-2787 or visit the website: www.thepeacocknc.org. Tickets also available at Tiger’s Mercantile on the Hayesville town square.
