“We’re grateful to the car owners..."

The Rotary Club of Clay County’s 16th Annual Car-B-Que, held Saturday, June 4 brought a crowd of car owners, car enthusiasts and barbecue lovers to the square in Hayesville, raising money for local scholarships.
The Car-B-Que always draws a diverse group of cars from the area and even several hours away, like Johnny Smith of Chattanooga, a first-time Car-B-Que entrant who brought home the Best of Show presented by Jacky Jones Automotive of Hayesville award with his 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air.
People’s Choice presented by Sonja Silvers Realty was Roger Donaldson’s 1961 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday and Car Owner’s Choice presented by Clay County Progress was Hollis Crocker’s 1957 Ford Custom 300 Moonshine car.
At Work Accounting presented the top five “best” awards to: GM: Gary Moore’s 1969 Camaro; Ford: Hollis Crocker’s 1957 300; Mopar: David Schmitt’s 1966 Dodge Dart GT; Truck: Robert Wright’s 1955 F-100; and Import:Tim Gaffney’s 1959 MG MGA.
Judges for this year’s show were Joe Slaton, Mike Harber, John Worden, Chuck Savage, Mick DeRoy and Don Grouette.
“The 16th Annual Car-B-Que was a great day on the square. We feel fortunate the rain held out long enough to have another fun and successful event,” said Rotary Club of Clay County President Deborah Nichols. “We’re grateful to the car owners, the attendees, our volunteers, the judges, our emcee Steven Phillips and our sponsors for helping to make scholarships for Hayesville High School students possible.”
