From the Clay County Health Department:
There have been two confirmed cases, both foxes, in Clay County since the beginning of May, according to Tanya Long with the Clay County Health Department. "We are monitoring other situations as well. There have been other reports of problems and sightings of wildlife such as raccoons behaving in an unusual or aggressive manner in different areas of the county," she said.
The health department is urging those with pet dogs and cats, inside or out, to make sure their rabies shots are up to date. If you have other animals such as horses, cattle, or other livestock, talk to your vet about the need for rabies shots for these animals as well.
Don’t try to handle wild animals such as foxes, raccoons, skunks, etc. If you have a situation involving an animal or an animal bite, call Clay County Health Department at 389-8052 or Clay County Dispatch at 389-2256 for information and assistance.
If you are in need of medical attention, call 911.
