"When we bust one drug dealer, two or more pop up to take their place." - Sheriff Vic Davis

Clay County and western North Carolina are not immune from the drug crisis ravaging our nation; however, the problem is certainly not exclusive to the area either.
Clay County Sheriff Vic Davis explained, “Unfortunately, drug problems are everywhere. Drugs are coming across the southern border in mass quantities and are being infiltrated throughout the United States. Until the current administration gets serious about controlling the drug problem at the border, local law enforcement will never be able to make a significant impact. When we bust one drug dealer, two or more pop up to take their place. According to the DEA and our recent investigations, a vast amount of our drugs are coming out of Georgia,” he said.
Whether there is a user in your family or not, the problem impacts almost everybody in one way or another. For one thing, crime is up. “The use and sale of illegal narcotics is a major cause of many of our local crimes,” Davis said. “A contributing factor in many domestic problems and assaults is that a person using drugs is not rational. A person that regularly abuses narcotics is usually unemployed and cannot hold a job, so often resorts to theft and even selling drugs to support their habit.”
