Bringing it back to life

When Clay County craftsmen added wood trim to the courthouse cupola nearly 130 years ago, they probably had no idea so much of the wood would still be in place in the 21st century. They may not have thought the courthouse itself would still be standing; however, Hayesville’s historic courthouse continues to be the downtown focal point and is  getting a face lift and some much needed maintenance. 

With some hard work from Tommy Davis and his Woodhaven Construction Company, the cupola’s wood is being replaced to look like the original wood. “We’re replacing rotten wood and putting on new millwork on the highest point of the building,” Davis said Tuesday. “We’ve got about another two weeks of that.”
