Murphy Medical Center may become Erlanger Murphy Medical Center if a proposal for Erlanger Health System to lease the local facility for 10 years is approved.
A public hearing was held March 14 at Tri-County Community College in which a presentation was made by Chattanooga-Hamilton County Hospital, doing business as Erlanger Health System, to the Town of Murphy Hospital Authority Board of Commissioners as well as the board of directors of Murphy Medical and Southwestern Health System.
The proposal includes integrating Murphy Medical into the Erlanger system via a 10-year, renewable lease, with Erlanger having the first option to buy during that time.
“In the Murphy Medical Center market, we see a lot of admissions occurring elsewhere rather than at Murphy Medical Center,” Rob Brooks, vice president with Erlanger Health System, told a crowd of about 90 people.
