After nearly 15 years on the job, Paul Leek is resigning as county manager — a decision that he says didn’t come easy.
“There is no ill will or hard feelings,” said Leek. “For a county manager to be in the same county 15 years is unheard of. It’s a stressful job and at this juncture in my life it’s time for a change. “
On Friday, Leek submitted his letter of resignation and two-week notice via e-mail to Clay Logan, Randy Nichols, Rob Peck, Robert Penland and Ed Roach, the five men comprising the Clay County Commission Board. Only two of them responded to his e-mail.
Logan, who serves as chairman of the board, said Tuesday that Leek’s  resignation was unexpected.
“It was a surprise to all of us,” Logan said. “The letter didn’t give a reason, it just said he wanted to move on.”
