Hayesville Family Practice nurse practitioner questioned, records seized as part of ongoing investigation into prescription drug abuse

Hayesville Family Practice in Clay County was the target of a search warrant executed last week by the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and the DEA Drug Diversion Task Force.
Clay County Sheriff Vic Davis said agents along with Clay and Cherokee county investigators executed the warrant naming Family Nurse Practitioner Keith Plott and alleging concerns over prescription medications. The majority of prescriptions cited were for hydrocodone and oxycodone. Over prescribing prescription medications was alleged in the search warrant affidavit.
Numerous public records and other files identified as potential evidence were seized and Plott was interviewed on the scene at the time of the search, the sheriff reported.
Two boxes of patient files, one box of printed patient files from the computer server and other miscellaneous documents from the manager’s office also were taken.
