The discovery and collection of recorded life events from a person’s life is the foundation for all genealogical research. It is how we connect people and it is how we prove that what we say is true. Before we can fully put together a family, we need to collect the genealogical life events for each member of the family. 
Genealogical life events are any written account of a person, however slight, that adds valuable knowledge about a person’s life. The significant genealogical events of a person’s life begin with a birth event, followed by a marriage and ends with death and a burial event. 
But in-between these basic vital statistics are a myriad of events in a person’s life. We are talking about recorded events that include anything that happened in a person’s life at a certain time and place and anything that can be recalled from memory or from written accounts. These in-between events include a baptism/christening or an event in which a person was recorded in some record. The day someone entered school is a genealogical life event, as well as the day they graduated.
