Heroin trafficking among accusations
A Clay County teen accused of possessing more than $80,000 worth of  drugs including heroin, mushrooms and ecstasy is being held in the Towns County Jail without bond.
Steven Douglas Anderson, 19, who listed a Hayesville address, faces a slew of drug charges including trafficking in heroin after Towns County deputies searched Anderson’s Hiawassee residence on Jan. 11, according to a news release from Sheriff Chris Clinton who assisted in the search and seizure.
The search warrants were obtained as part of an ongoing investigation, Clinton said. In addition to drugs, the sheriff’s office seized a quantity of firearms, cash and a Mercedes Benz from the residence.
A search warrant was also obtained to open a safe that belonged to Anderson and that had been hit on by the sheriff’s K-9 drug dog, “Hunter.”
The Towns County Fire Department assisted in opening the safe using equipment that is generally used for vehicle extraction, Clinton said.
As of Jan. 25, Anderson remains in the Towns County Jail. He faces 21 charges related to drugs:
• Trafficking heroin.
• Possession of heroin.
• Possession of heroin with intent to distribute.
• Possession of mushrooms. (Shrooms)
