Clay Logan was elected chairman of the Clay County Board of Commissioners and Robert Penland was chosen vice chairman at the board’s Thursday evening meeting. The board also approved the appointment of Merinda Swanson Woody as Clay County attorney.
Logan and Penland replace outgoing Chairman Randy Nichols and Vice Chairman Robert Peck.
Woody, a Hayesville lawyer, was appointed county attorney after the resignation of Chester Jones, who lives in Franklin. She told the board she would go home and consider the appointment overnight before deciding whether to accept. She agreed to do so Friday morning.
