Clay County Commissioners have approved a resolution for a new no-wake zone on Lake Chatuge and announced a public hearing on an application for a Community Development Block Grant to renovate two buildings in downtown Hayesville.
Commissioner Robert Penland was absent from Thursday’s meeting. The four commissioners present took the following action:
• They passed a resolution applying for a new no-wake zone and/or speed restrictions within the high bridge and Shooting Creek areas of Lake Chatuge. The resolution says that portion of the lake is narrow and has obstructed views is heavily congested and the present no-wake zone does not provide sufficient protection for boaters and swimmers.
• They recommended suspension of the Clay County Economic Development Board and voted to permit Tri-County Community College to handle duties of the economic director until the end of the fiscal year.
Clay County Economic Development Director Aaron Patton has resigned his position and joined the Tri-County Community College staff.
